Of Michael’s companions, Control is often times the more tolerable. While lacking the Hate’s affinity for vileness and crass, she still exerts her influence in ways unpalatable to Michael. His trust for her waxes and wanes with his irritation for the Hate, but by the time he’s grown into a man it sits near permanently at low ebb.

Creating the Control was tough for me; so much of her was supposed to be an inverse recreation of my own Mother that the character almost took on a sugary sweetness. It wasn’t until I sat down and argued with her on paper that I finally discovered her true motivations. From then on, the Control seemed to almost be hiding in my keyboard, waiting with bated breath to fill my computer’s screen with her words.
